A dipstick gives a color block and a technician's read. Automated quantitative urinalysis counts cells, casts, crystals and bacteria per microliter and reports them as numbers. For urology, nephrology and primary care that means earlier detection of hematuria, proteinuria and infection, cleaner follow-up on borderline results, and a result the physician can trend visit to visit.
